Lindy Lenk
Lindy Lenk is a writer, poet, photographer, film director, and author of the children’s book, Isabella’s Gate. She is a loyal and proud Detroiter who never stopped believing in Detroit’s resilience, enduring heart, entrepreneurial spirit, and strong soul. Detroit is her home, although she has lived and worked abroad, in Athens, Greece, and she loves to travel.
Lindy has a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in English and a minor in Modern Greek, from Wayne State University. She graduated summa cum laude and received the Distinguished Graduating Senior award for academic excellence. She has won multiple awards for her writing, including the John Clare Award for Poetry and the Tompkins Award for Poetry. Both her poetry and photography have been published by the Wayne State Literary Review. She also earned an Associate of Arts degree with a concentration in Creative Writing and an Associate of Applied Science degree in Media and Communication Arts with concentrations in Video Production and Photography from Macomb Community College.
Lindy attended the Motion Picture Institute of Michigan. She graduated from both the film program and the acting for film program. Her thesis film, Baring Sole, won awards for Best Direction of a Film and Best Cinematography. She worked in the film industry on various feature films and episodic television productions. Lindy continues her independent film endeavors and has directed short films, music videos, commercials, corporate and educational videos. Promised Land, a music video she wrote, directed and edited for the Carolyn Striho Band, was nominated for a Detroit Music Award as Best Music Video. Currently, Lindy works as an instructor at the Motion Picture Institute, as well as a substitute teacher for grades K-12.
Lindy also had a long career in the beauty and fashion industries — she keeps her cosmetology license current and continues to freelance as a makeup artist and hairstylist.
Her other interests include studying mythology and its universal motifs, ancient history, and the classics — particularly ancient Greece, Plutarch, Sophocles, Plato, and Aristotle. She is a Reiki Master and follows a natural, holistic approach to health and healing, in addition to allopathic medicine. She loves animals, nature and flower gardening. She enjoys cooking and considers herself a foodie. (As a Detroiter, she prefers Lafayette over American Coney Island, and Vernors over every other pop.) And although she has not been diving in a while, Lindy prides herself in having passed her intense PADI Open Water Scuba Diving certification in Cozumel, Mexico. She hopes to get back under the water one day soon. She also has her motorcycle endorsement and plans on getting her own Harley in the near future. But her biggest love is for her family — being a mother is her greatest accomplishment and being a grandma is her greatest reward.
Lindy has a passion for storytelling, the written word, and the visual arts. She has multiple projects in every stage, from conceptual to preproduction and onward. Bored is not a word in her personal vocabulary…and neither is can’t.
